Morellino di Scansano Winery

from the collaboration with the CRISBA Research Center a new ecotypic yeast.

This is a strain of Saccharomyces cerevisae that the Research Center of the Institute of Grosseto has selected starting from the Sangiovese grapes from the Vigna Benefizio vineyard , located in the town of Preselle (Scansano, Grosseto). The project was conducted with the students of class 5A of the agricultural technician, Enology and Viticulture address, who throughout the school year characterized the microorganism, both from a genetic and technological point of view. The CRISBA, in collaboration with the CREA (Research Center for Viticulture and Enology) of Asti, has verified the potential of the strain, which shows a good fermentative power and tolerates well the lack of readily assimilable nitrogen. These and other positive properties have made it suitable to continue the winemaking tests on a real scale and it has been used by the Grosseto cooperative for a fermentation test on 200 hectolitres of must.

“As a winery – explains Benedetto Grechi , President of Cantina Vignaioli Morellino di Scansano – we believe in science, innovation and progress and for this reason we were very pleased to collaborate with the CRISBA research center, giving students the opportunity to test themselves with a concrete case. The hope is that thanks to this selection of yeasts made directly in our vineyards we will be able to further enhance the expression of our territory”.

“The collaboration with Cantina Vignaioli Morellino di Scansano – continues Professor Lorenzo Moncini – has allowed us to remain faithful to one of the founding principles of CRISBA: carrying out research together with students and at the service of the territory. The students have had the opportunity to try their hand at teaching based on the scientific method and aimed at offering a concrete service to one of the most important entities in the Italian wine scene. Furthermore, by testing the yeast on a real scale, we had the immediate application of our experimental work. A privilege for those who do research, often accustomed to long times between laboratory evidence and their actual use”.

The project, which also involves Unioncamere, began in September 2023 and aims to identify those ecotypic yeasts that guarantee great technological reliability without, however, homologating the characteristics and sensory originality of the wine produced .

Conti Bossi Fedrigotti protagonist at Trentodoc Festival 2024

Conti Bossi Fedrigotti – a Rovereto winery that has been part of the Masi Group since 2007 – is among the protagonists of the Trentodoc Festival 2024.

The 2020 vintage of Conte Federico Riserva Brut was presented for the occasion.

As part of the third edition of the Trentodoc Festival , three days dedicated to mountain bubbles, the Conti Bossi Fedrigotti winery opened the doors of the historic Maso San Giorgio to consumers, journalists and institutional guests for an evening featuring the 2020 vintage of Conte Federico Riserva Brut , presented in preview.

The elegant sparkling wine, produced from Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes, gift of selected vineyards in Trentino land caressed by the Ora wind, is characterized by the persistent and subtle perlage and by a great aromatic richness that ranges from citrus notes to those of spices and bread crust. Characteristics that were emphasized during the evening through the pairing with fusion and made in Italy dishes prepared live in an engaging live cooking experience.

The guests were welcomed by Countesses Maria José and Isabella Bossi Fedrigotti and by Sandro Boscaini, President of the Masi Agricola Group , of which Cantine Conti Bossi Fedrigotti has been a part since 2007. Led by the winemaker Dante Cavazzani , they had the opportunity to visit the estate, discovering the cellar dedicated to Count Federico and also the barrel cellar where the Fojaneghe is refined, another excellent label from the Trentino maison, one of the first examples of Bordeaux blend in Italy, created in 1961.

“It was a great pleasure to participate in the Trentodoc Festival, an event that promotes the excellence of Trentino mountain sparkling wines,” said Sandro Boscaini, President of Masi. This year’s edition gave us the opportunity to preview the 2020 vintage of Conte Federico Riserva Brut, a classic method that has its roots in the centuries-old history of the Bossi Fedrigotti Counts. The noble family, which boasts over three hundred years of winemaking history, has been producing “Schampagna” wine since the 19th century, as it appears in historical documents, testifying to the contribution made to Trentino winemaking, which has been expressed not only in the promotion of native grapes but also in laying the foundations for the development of the future Trento doc. The Masi Group has been working alongside this historic winery since 2007 to bring emblematic wines of the Trentino region to the world.”

FROM THE NEW YORK STAGE TO THE VIRTUAL CLASSROOM, EXCLUSIVE TASTINGS AND INTERNATIONAL TRAINING TO PROMOTE LAKE GARDA WINES.

The Garda DOC Consortium strengthens its presence in the American market , presenting the iconic wines of Lake Garda to a select audience of industry professionals and specialized press. The event, held in New York on September 6, entitled “ Garda DOC: A Voyage Through Garda DOC’s Iconic Wines” , offered an ad hoc in-depth look at the various winemaking expressions of the Garda area through three exclusive masterclasses. “Through initiatives like these,” emphasizes Giovanna Prandini , vice president of the Garda DOC Consortium, “the Garda DOC Consortium confirms its commitment to the international promotion of its wines, aiming to raise awareness of the quality and versatility of Garda products. In fact, the Lake Garda area, with its ideal microclimate and the variety of its soils, represents a unique territory that deserves to be discovered and appreciated on a global level. The international promotion and training initiatives of the Garda DOC Consortium are essential to highlight the value of an area that combines scenic beauty and excellent winemaking tradition.” The first Masterclass, “ Discover Garda DOC Bianco Wines, a hidden gem ”, focused on Garda DOC white wines, considered a true hidden gem of the area. Participants explored the unique characteristics of Lake Garda, with particular attention to the influence of terroir, climate and winemaking history on the production of these fresh and versatile wines. The Garda DOC white wine fascinated for its ability to best express the peculiarities of the territory, confirming the quality and refinement that distinguish the denomination. The second masterclass, “ Garda DOC Wines: Whites and Reds from the Lake ”, offered a complete overview of Pinot Grigio-based whites and international reds. Participants discovered how the geography and microclimate of Lake Garda give unique characteristics to these wines, making them fresh and lively in the case of whites, and complex and structured in the case of reds. The third and final appointment, “ Sparkling Wines: A Divine Iteration of Garda DOC ”, was dedicated to Garda DOC sparkling wines, made with the traditional method. These sparkling wines, already widely appreciated in Europe, were presented as the perfect example of what Lake Garda can offer in terms of elegance and refinement. Participants were able to taste high-quality sparkling wines, capable of best representing the freshness and finesse of the Garda territory, concluding the session with an aperitif that reinforced the atmosphere of conviviality and exchange. In parallel with the success of this event, the Garda DOC Consortium is preparing for a new important event: on September 25 , an online course will be held for students of the Wine Scholar Guild (WSG), a renowned international educational institution. The course, aimed at a global audience with a particular focus on the United States and Europe, will offer an in-depth overview of the territory, grape varieties, climate and denominations of Garda DOC. Led by experts in the sector, this training course aims to provide students with a solid foundation of theoretical and practical knowledge, further enhancing the oenological heritage of Lake Garda. Finally, at the San Carlo Osteria Piemontese in New York on October 8th from 12 to 2 pm, a press lunch dedicated to the tasting of Garda DOC wines is scheduled, during which the wine writer and Brand ambassador Susannah Gold will talk about the vineyards and wines of Garda.
