Today’s top news from the world of wine: Italian wineries, the market, oenology, exports, international trends, wine tourism, and events.
ITALIAN CELLARS
Terre Moretti: Asset transactions to rebalance financial structure
The Terre Moretti group, active in the wine and hospitality sectors with companies such as Bellavista, Contadi Castaldi, Sella & Mosca and L’Andana, is reportedly engaged in a process of financial rebalancing.
According to the information reported in the collected material, the group’s overall exposure is significant and the sale of Tenuta La Badiola, along with the L’Andana resort in Castiglione della Pescaia, is underway for an indicative value exceeding €30 million. The possibility of negotiations regarding Contadi Castaldi is also reported.
This is also an interesting story from an M&A perspective, as it demonstrates how wine, real estate, and hospitality assets can become tools for the financial reorganization of large groups.
Terlano Winery Among the Protagonists of Bibenda 2027
Cantina Terlano has won three “Cinque Grappoli” awards in the 2027 Bibenda guide, alongside leading names such as Giacomo Conterno, Gaja, La Spinetta, Ca’ del Bosco, and Fontodi.
The guide awards a total of 780 “Cinque Grappoli” (Five Bunches) to 701 wineries. Numerous Italian wineries also receive two awards, confirming the remarkable quality of national production.
Ripatransone: Four Three Glasses Awards 2027
Ripatransone , in the Marche region, emerges as one of the protagonist areas of the Gambero Rosso 2027 Italian Wine Guide.
Four of the 24 excellent Marche wines awarded the Tre Bicchieri come from the municipality: Offida Pecorino 2025 from Tenuta Santori, Offida Pecorino 2025 from Numa, Offida Pecorino Mercantino 2025 from Cantina dei Colli Ripani and Piceno Superiore Nero di Vite 2018 from Le Caniette.
Conegliano Valdobbiadene: The harvest is increasingly early.
The story of La Vigna di Sarah , on the hills of Vittorio Veneto, concretely tells the effects of climate change on viticulture.
Where the harvest once occurred between late September and October, in 2026 the Glera harvest began as early as August 17th , even at night. The company has grown from its initial eight hectares to approximately twenty hectares dedicated to Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG.
ITALIAN WINE AND OENOLOGY
Italian wine exports: 169% increase in twenty years
Exports represent one of the most important transformations of Italian wine in recent decades.
According to the reported data, processed by WineNews on an Istat basis, the value of exports went from around 3 billion euros in 2005 to 8.07 billion in 2024 , with a growth of 169% .
In 2025, exports fell to around 7.7 billion , while the first half of 2026 recorded a 6.2% decrease compared to the same period in 2025.
The sector is currently facing US tariffs, inflation, international tensions, demographic changes, and changing consumer behavior. However, long-term growth demonstrates the importance of international promotion and collaboration between companies and institutions.
Veneto: The Tre Bicchieri wines tell the story of a region that goes beyond Prosecco.
Nearly 50 Veneto labels have been awarded Gambero Rosso’s Tre Bicchieri 2027.
Among the protagonists are 13 Amarone, 7 Soave and numerous Rive del Conegliano Valdobbiadene , giving back the image of a wine-growing region much more diversified than the sole international fame of Prosecco.
Emilia-Romagna: 15 top wines
Fifteen wines from Emilia-Romagna are among the top wines selected by the 2027 Italian Wine Guide.
Particular attention is paid to Lambrusco , which is transforming characteristics once considered simple – freshness, bubbles and low alcohol content – into elements consistent with new consumer preferences.
For Romagna, however, the need to further enhance the territories, sub-zones and identity of Sangiovese emerges.
Vesuvius: quality, identity, and wine tourism for market growth
The Vesuvius wine region aims to strengthen its positioning through quality, recognition, and international openness.
The Consorzio Tutela Vini del Vesuvio aims to prevent the area’s wines from being perceived simply as tourist products, instead highlighting their volcanic origins, identity, and ability to compete on the market.
Research: Preserving the diversity of Italian wine
The so-called “wines of the future” were awarded in Milan. The initiative focused on the role of experimental research in protecting biodiversity and preserving the distinctive characteristics of Italian wines.
Cabernet Sauvignon: Is the concept of great wine changing?
Cabernet Sauvignon remains one of the most recognizable international grape varieties, but the style traditionally associated with power, wood, concentration, and large bottles appears less aligned with some of the new trends.
A more discreet, territorial, and less ostentatious concept of luxury is emerging, which could also influence winemaking styles and the commercial positioning of great reds.
Vineyard work: new gangmastering scandal
The collected material highlights a case involving agricultural workers employed in vineyards with extremely low wages and abusive accommodations. The Carabinieri have reported two alleged gangmasters and a farmer.
A theme that draws attention to the social sustainability of the winemaking industry as well as its environmental and economic aspects.
INTERNATIONAL
Wine is moving further north: interest in Finland is growing.
Climate change and the development of resistant varieties are transforming the geography of European viticulture.
Grape varieties such as Solaris and Cabernet Sauvignon , developed to better withstand harsh climates and fungal diseases, have boosted viticulture in the Nordic countries. Solaris accounts for approximately 80% of Swedish vineyards and 50% of Danish ones, while interest in Finland is now growing.
Nordics Pinot Noir Trophy International 2026
The Nordics Pinot Noir Trophy International 2026 in Falstaff evaluated Pinot Noirs from the Austrian Thermenregion, selecting 11 wines among the best expressions of the area.
Italy-US: Trade and Investment Resist Tariff Tensions
Despite rising tariffs and trade uncertainty, economic relations between Italy and the United States remain intense.
The discussion between the American Chamber of Commerce in Italy and the Italy-America Chamber of Commerce highlighted the possibility of further strengthening cooperation, including through a future transatlantic chamber structure.
For Italian wine, the United States remains a strategic market and particularly sensitive to evolving tariff policies.
WINE TOURISM AND NEW TRENDS
The new luxury of wine is experiencing the cellar while the wine is born
A new form of premium experience is emerging in wine tourism.
It’s not just about tasting prestigious bottles: there’s a growing interest in the harvest, vineyards, barrel cellars, tastings from the barrel, fermentations and daily life in the cellar .
In Montalcino, for example, Rosewood Castiglion del Bosco offers a Harvest Experience that allows guests to participate in the Sangiovese harvest and follow the initial stages of its transformation.
Wine resort: sleep where wine is born
The grape harvest is becoming a central element of the offerings of Italian and European wine resorts .
Farms, wineries offering hospitality, restored villages, and resorts integrated into wineries allow visitors to experience the vineyard, harvest, winemaking, and local area firsthand.
Wine tourism thus evolves from a simple tasting to an immersive experience of the production chain .
Lake Garda: Autumn in Lugana, Valtènesi, and Bardolino
With the end of the grape harvest, visits and tastings in the cellars of Lake Garda resume.
Lugana, Valtènesi, and Bardolino offer three distinct territorial identities. Of particular note is the Lugana DOC, based on Turbiana grapes and available in the following styles: Lugana, Superiore, Riserva, Vendemmia Tardiva, and Spumante.

The message that emerges is clear: Italian wine must learn to tell its story using a more accessible, understandable and consumer-friendly language, reducing technicalities and self-referentiality.
PICTURE OF THE DAY
The October 4, 2026, review highlights several signs worthy of attention: Italian wine retains strong international standing, but is undergoing a phase of greater economic and financial selection; quality and territorial reputation are becoming increasingly important; climate and early harvests are transforming viticulture; wine tourism is evolving toward immersive experiences; while even large groups must pay increasing attention to debt, profitability, and asset valuation .
At the same time, the consumer is changing: less attracted by ostentation and increasingly interested in the territory, authenticity, experience, sustainability and history of the product .
