“ Once again a very high level of quality – commented the president of the Mostra Valle di Cembra Committee Sara Pedri – . Just think that there are 8 wines, in addition to those that won medals, that have exceeded 85 points, with which the Gold Medal is usually awarded, and that in many cases the positions in the ranking depended on tenths, if not hundredths of a point ”.
The 64 wines in competition , of which 45 are from Trentino – 6 more than last year – 8 from Alto Adige, one from the Aosta Valley and around ten German wines, equal to 15% of the total, were tasted last June 20 by 19 judges divided into three tasting commissions, each composed of oenologists, journalists and sommeliers with blind tastings according to the Union Internationale des Oenologues Method which includes the evaluation of sight, smell, taste and taste-smell.
In terms of vintages, 41 labels from 2024 competed, as many as 19 from 2023, two from 2022, one from 2021 and one from 2017. The winemakers, in particular, appreciated the freshness and acidity of the 2024 productions, while sommeliers and journalists appreciated the longevity of non-vintage productions. However, everyone agreed on the potential of a wine that, due to its characteristics, can be well-suited to current consumption trends.
The award ceremony took place on the opening night of the 38th edition of Müller Thurgau: Vino di Montagna , in the presence of the press, partners and institutions, followed by the wine-comedy show by Lucio Gardin . On Saturday 5 July , at 4:00 pm, a tasting of the winning wines, already sold out, is scheduled at Palazzo Maffei. In the rooms of the Palazzo, it will still be possible to taste over 60 wines on display to discover the different nuances of this grape variety.
